apple cream pie

1 unbaked pie crust

2-3 cups chopped apples
2/3 cup sugar
2 T flour
1 cup sour cream
1 t vanilla
pinch of salt
1 egg

Mix together the sugar, flour, and salt, then add the cream, vanilla, and 1 egg. Mix until smooth. Mix in the apples, pour into pie shell, top with a crumb topping (1/3 C sugar, 1/3 C flour, 1/2 C butter). Bake at 425 for about 25 minutes. This pie is REALLY good (not to mention easy)!!!!

  1. Hey Gal! That apple cream pie sounds fantastic! You are a diabetic's Nightmare! Haha!

What's funny, is before I became diabetic, I didn't care for sweets with the exception of cokes and some candy bars. Now that's all I crave, and I haven't found any sugar free stuff that quenches my sweet tooth. My hubby bought me some chocolate carmel (sugar free) yesterday, and I ate all six pieces and still was craving something sweet. The only thing that candy did was Upset my tummy.

  2. I don't think I could stand being diabetic!! This is an Amish recipe and they have the tastiest desserts.

My aunt makes a delicious no-sugar added apple pie. Basically you make it the same as regular apple pie but you use a sweeter apple (ex. Golden Delicious) rather than the green baking kind, and you do not add any sugar to the apples. You use a double crust and the same spices as with a traditional apple pie, but because the apples are sweeter no sugar is even necessary. It's really good and might be an option for you.

  3. What a great recipe!! Seems like something I had as a child and have been looking for this recipe! This very nice lady in our church use to make us an apple pie that had a cream base to it. I'm going to try this!!

Thanks for your comments on my blog today! What did you do for Halloween? How did you handle it? I've always let my kids go trick or treating as long as they had costumes that were fun, nothing scary. Our church has a harvest party and we always attend that. The past 2 years we haven't done the trick or treating because the church party fell on the same day. I was thinking, for next year of course, why not get a few of your friends together and have a harvest party on your own!

    Enjoy your day!

  4. We ended up going to church (we go on Sat. evenings) then coming home and making Rice Krispies treats, eating the pies I had made and passing out candy. I gave them the candy I had bought for them. Oh, and we did take them earlier in the day to a local grocery store that had "trick-or-treat" stations set up, so they did get to do that.
